The Patriots received this year's Outstanding Overall Player Development Award from the NFL Player Development Department after earning top honors for financial education seminars in three of the last four years.

The award was announced on Sunday.

During last week's annual meetings, awards were distributed to the NFL Player Development departments in financial education, continuing education, career development and life skills. The Outstanding Overall Player Development Award is given to the team that excels in all four areas.

In addition, the NFL recognized the Patriots for their development of a safe boating program in light of the death of two NFL players during a boating tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico last year.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers was a guest speaker at the event.

An NFL representative will recognize the achievement with an on-field presentation during the 2010 season.
