Alex Gonzalez has a new home.

According to ESPN.com, the Atlanta Braves have acquired the former Red Sox shortstop from the Toronto Blue Jays in an effort to bolster their chances at a deep playoff run.

Gonzalez, arguably having his most productive offensive season ever, has 17 home runs in 2010.

The Braves also received two prospects in the deal, while Toronto got shortstop Yunel Escobar and pitcher Jo-Jo Reyes. Escobar has struggled this season but is younger than Gonzalez and has a much higher career batting average.

But with Chipper Jones and Bobby Cox on the way out, the Braves were more willing to mortgage their future for the present. Currently, they have a 4 1/2-game lead in the NL East, the largest margin of any of baseball's division leaders.
