After undergoing what was supposed to be a routine surgery to remove a cyst, Ed woke up to his surgeons telling him he had Hodgkin's Lymphoma. A college senior at the time, Ed was scared about what the diagnosis would bring his way in the future.

Ten years later, Ed was doing just fine. He survived his bout with Hodgkin's and went on to live a normal life, with his wife giving birth to their first daughter in 2008. It was soon after his daughter was born that he returned to the doctor's for a routine physical and found that his cholesterol was dangerously high.

While the rest of his tests saw positive results, Ed realized that he had to take his health more seriously, not only for him, but for his daughter. He didn't let cancer hold him down, and he wasn't about to do the same with his nutritional issues.

By balancing a healthy diet with a running schedule, Ed lost 40 pounds. He began training for the Boilermaker 15k race in Utica, N.Y. and he decided that in addition to his participation in the race, he was also going to raise money for Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund. By receiving sponsors, Ed was able to give back to the institute that helped him during his battle against cancer.

With his new healthy lifestyle, Ed says he is in a great place in his life, and with the control over his diet, he can now focus on the future with his family.
