Andre Ethier Dismisses Report He Would Welcome Trade to Red Sox Andre Ethier might want to play for the Red Sox, but he’s not letting it show at the moment.

The Dodgers’ All-Star outfielder dismissed a report that he told friends he would welcome a trade to Boston after the season.

“It’s obviously hearsay,” Ethier told MLB.com. “Especially at this point, it doesn’t even make sense to comment on something like this.”

Ethier is a former college teammate and good friend of Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia. The 29-year-old will be making $9.25 million next season, the second year of a two-year deal.

While Boston could certainly use a player as talented as Ethier, the Dodgers’ asking price would likely be steep if he were available at all. Ethier was an early NL MVP candidate before breaking his finger in May, but he still leads the team in batting average (.288), home runs (22) and OPS (.850).
