HBO is taking its Hard Knocks crew to the ice.

According to the Post Gazette, HBO will film a documentary mini-series this season revolving around the Winter Classic between the Penguins and rival Washington Capitals.

The Winter Classic will be played at Pittsburgh's Heinz Field on New Year's Day between Alex Ovechkin's Caps and Sidney Crosby's Penguins. The series would air throughout December and into January.

This summer, HBO had full access to the New York Jets. Players and coaches were mic'd up and HBO was given an all-access pass to every angle of the team's workouts, training, traveling and personal lives.

An official announcement from HBO and the NHL is expected Thursday.
