The streak is over. For the first time in 297 regular-season games, Brett Favre will not take the field as the starting quarterback when the Vikings take on the Giants in Detroit on Monday night.
The Vikings have confirmed that the veteran quarterback has been ruled inactive for Monday night's game with the Giants, due to a right shoulder injury.
There has been discussion all week about whether or not Favre would play after he sprained his throwing shoulder last week against the Bills.
Tarvaris Jackson, who took over for Favre following his injury on Dec. 5, will get the start for the Vikings on Monday night.
Favre even got an extra day to see if his shoulder would feel any better after Sunday's game had to be postponed and rescheduled for Monday night in Detroit after the Metrodome roof collapsed following a strong snowstorm in Minneapolis.
ESPN's Chris Mortenson reports via Twitter that putting Favre on season-ending injured reserve is "possible/likely." That, of course, may finally signal the end of Favre's career as the 41-year-old has mentioned that this is his final season.
