Many NFL Gurus Aren't Sold on Cam Newton Succeeding as Full-time NFL Quarterback Cam Newton can now hire an agent to take care of his pay-for-play needs without any fears of committing NCAA violations. The Auburn quarterback is taking his talents to the NFL.

The Heisman Trophy winner and BCS national champion quarterback will forego his senior season at Auburn and enter the NFL draft. Newton led the Tigers to a 14-0 season and their first national title since 1957 with a 22-19 victory over Oregon on Monday night.

"This decision was difficult for me and my family," Newton. "It's been a blessing for me to be a part of something so great. Any time you win games it's a big deal, but for this school to win a BCS national championship, what a way to make people happy. Auburn is a special place that I can call home."

Newton finished the season with 1,473 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns while passing for 2,854 yards and 30 touchdowns — both of which are Auburn records.

Once Tim Tebow’s backup at Florida, Newton is the No. 14-ranked player on Mel Kiper’s Big Board of potential NFL prospects. And like Tebow, many NFL draft "experts" are questioning whether Newton can succeed at the professional level. Some already are considering him a "slash" player that can line up under center, in the backfield or as a wideout. They don't picture him succeeding as a full-time NFL quarterback.
