After three competitive rounds, Jon Fitch and B.J. Penn were deemed to have drawn at UFC 127 in Sydney, as two of the three judges scored the matchup 28-28. The third judge, however, ruled 29-28 for Fitch, but majority rules in UFC.
"I thought [I deserved the win]," Fitch said, according to ESPN. "I gave some positioning in the first two rounds, but I came back and did enough to at least win a split decision."
Penn acknowledged that he let the match slip away.
"I think I got some dominant positions in the first and second, but he kicked my butt in the third," Penn explained. "If I lost this fight, I wasn't sure what I was going to do with my career, but since the gods were nice to me and gave me a draw, if he wants to do it again, I'll do it again."
Elsewhere on the card, Michael Bisping defeated Jorge Rivera via TKO, Dennis Silver defeated George Sotiropoulos via unanimous decision, Brian Ebersole defeated Chris Lytle via unanimous decision and Australian Kyle Noke submitted Chris Camozzi.
