Albert Haynesworth's legend in Washington continues to grow, as a warrant for assault has been issued against him following a roadside incident earlier this week.

According to NBC Washington, Joel Velasquez made a "non-verbal hand gesture" to a pickup truck that he said was tailgating him on Route 7100 in Fairfax County Wednesday morning. At a subsequent stoplight, the driver of the pickup got out of the car and said "You're not so tough, now," repeatedly before punching Velasquez in the face.

The driver then got back in his pickup and drove away, while Velasquez took himself to Reston Hospital to be treated for his minor injuries.

He identified the driver of the pickup as Haynesworth, a claim disputed by Haynesworth's agent, Chad Speck.

"Mr Velasquez confirms an incident occurred with Mr. Haynesworth, and once the police have conducted the investigation on the matter, we will go forward as appropriate," said Velasquez's attorney.

Redskins officials are gathering information about the incident, but have not commented.

"I heard something this morning, and I have yet to find out the details yet. I haven't heard from Bruce Allen yet," Redskins owner Dan Snyder said Friday. "I'm eagerly awaiting to see what that's all about."

Speck, though, dismissed the allegations as attention-seeking.

"This man, who actually provoked the situation himself, recognized Albert and is now simply trying to turn it into his 15 minutes of fame and get, we can only assume, some money," Speck said. "Albert did not assault this man and looks forward to his day in court to refute these ridiculous allegations."

Haynesworth is out of town, but has made plans to turn himself in.
