Despite opposition, Matthew Hulsizer, owner of the Chicago-based Peak6 Investments, is still trying to buy the Phoenix Coyotes, according to ESPN.com. Earlier this year, the Goldwater Group had interfered with Hulsizer's attempts to purchase the team.

The controversy surrounding the Coyotes started when the team became bankrupt in 2009. The city of Glendale, Ariz., began looking for a new owner — and is still looking for one — to keep the team in Phoenix.

Thanks to financial problems, Glendale voted to pay the NHL $25 million twice to keep the Coyotes in Phoenix, at least temporarily.

The Coyotes were born in 1996 when the Winnipeg Jets moved to Phoenix. The Coyotes suffered an eight-year playoff drought before qualifying for the playoffs the past two seasons. The Red Wings eliminated the Coyotes both times.
