After suffering from a broken foot during the 2010-11 season, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said he might consider surgery, if the pain does not improve.

"If it continues to be as painful as it was at the end of last year, then I'm going to probably have to have the surgery," Roethlisberger told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on Friday.

Roethlisberger said there were times last year when he could barely walk, but his foot has been healing because of the additional rest — thanks to the NFL lockout.

"I could have had surgery, but according to the doctors it would have been a really nasty process because of where the break was," Roethlisberger said. "It was better off trying not to do anything. It's going to be something where we're just going to have to, in essence, play it by ear."

Roethlisberger was suspended for the first four games of the season and began wearing a special cleat on Dec. 5 to help his foot. He threw for 3,200 yards and 17 touchdowns, and had a 97 QB rating.

Roethsliberger took the Steelers to the Super Bowl, where they lost 31-25 to the Green Bay Packers.
