Mark Herzlich Signs With New York Giants Mark Herzlich is a New York Giant.

The former Boston College linebacker said Monday that he was mulling his options, and he tweeted Tuesday morning that he chose the Giants.

"I have chosen the #Giants," he wrote to ESPN's Adam Schefter. "Great team, great fit, great opportunity."

Herzlich was a surefire first- or second-round draft pick before being diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a form of bone cancer, prior to the 2009 college season. He missed the entire year but returned in 2010, starting every game for the Eagles and compiling 50 solo tackles and assisting on 15 more.

Herzlich was passed over in April's NFL draft, and he was selected 51st in the UFL draft in May. He opted to forego the UFL opportunity in hopes of signing with an NFL team as an undrafted free agent once the lockout ended.

The Giants were expected to be a prime candidate for Herzlich, as the team has several BC connections in head coach Tom Coughlin (Eagles head coach 1991-93) and former Eagles Mathias Kiwanuka and Chris Snee.
