After somehow missing the playoffs last year while boasting the league's No. 1 offense and No. 1 defense, the San Diego Chargers have wasted no time upgrading their squad.

ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted that the Chargers have reached an agreement with linebacker Takeo Spikes, who should bring some experience and leadership to a young group of linebackers.

Spikes should fit well next to 2010 Pro Bowler Shaun Phillips to try and lead the Chargers in a wide-open AFC West.

Spikes spent the last three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, where he recorded five sacks and averaged 66 tackles per year.
