U.S. Women Handle Colombia 3-0, Advance to World Cup Quarterfinals The United States got goals from Heather O'Reilly, Megan Rapinoe and Carli Lloyd in cruising to a 3-0 win over Colombia in Sinsheim, Germany on Saturday.

With the victory the Americans assure themselves a spot in the World Cup quarterfinals. They will play Sweden on Wednesday to determine the winner of Group C. Both teams are 2-0 but the U.S. leads Sweden via the goal differential tiebreaker.

O'Reilly began the scoring at the 12-minute mark with a strike to the top left corner of the goal from 25 yards out. It was the third World Cup tally for the 26-year-old from New Jersey.

After the marker, the U.S. players lined up near midfield and gave a salute to the crowd of 25,475. Roughly 350 members of the U.S. military currently stationed at a base in nearby Mannheim were on hand to watch the U.S. after witnessing the team practice Thursday.

Despite the quick start, the U.S. went into halftime leading only 1-0. The Americans had a number of chances in the Colombian end but were stymied by missed headers, deflections and the sprawling saves of opposing keeper Sandra Sepulveda, who finished with six saves despite injuring her thumb early in the contest.

Halftime substitute Rapinoe gave the U.S. a 2-0 lead five minutes into the second half when she took a pass from teammate Lauren Cheney and fired a shot from just inside the penalty box that found the back of the net.

Lloyd made it 3-0 when her strike from outside the box deflected off Sepulveda's hands and bounced into the goal.

U.S. keeper Hope Solo extended her World Cup shutout streak to five games dating back to 2007 with a four-save performance on Saturday. It was a relatively quiet game for Solo, who watched as her teammates controlled play for the majority of the contest. The U.S. had a possession advanatage of 56 percent compared to Colombia's 44 percent and outshot their opponents 27-12.

The only disappointment for the Americans was Abby Wambach who didn't seem to have any luck scoring. The 31-year-old led all players with eight shots but only one was recorded on goal. Wambach's best chance came in the 81st minute when she slid to direct a ball past Sepulveda. The ball got by the keeper but struck the left post and stayed out of the goal. Three minutes later she was given a yellow card following a collision with Sepulveda.

Kickoff for Wednesday's game against Sweden is set at 2:45 p.m. in Wolfsburg. Colombia will face North Korea at the same time in Ruhrstadion.
