Former Liverpool icon Fernando Torres seems intent on burning as many bridges as possible within the Premier League, as he had some harsh criticism for his Chelsea teammates in a recent interview with La Liga’s official website.

Torres, who went from Kop hero to villain after forcing through his Chelsea transfer, is quoted as saying, “The kind of players Chelsea has, an older player who plays very slow, who has a lot of possession, and that’s what the club is trying to change now. It’s normal that it takes some time.”

For his part, Torres has claimed that a translation breakdown twisted his message, although his comments also ran on his personal website.

Chelsea has launched its own investigation into the comments with manager Andre Villas-Boas telling reporters, “We are going in-depth to regain the tape of that interview. He says he didn’t say that. We will see if things play exactly as they are in that interview.”

The misfiring attacker has endured a difficult nine months since his move to Chelsea on the last day of the 2011 January transfer window.

Having found the net only once for the Blues, Torres has seen his place within both Chelsea and the Spanish national side come under threat. Boas elected to start Daniel Sturridge against Sunderland on the weekend, while Spain manager Vicente del Bosque omitted Torres from even his substitutes bench against Liechtenstein.
