Charlie Adam dedicated his man-of-the-match performance and Liverpool’s victory over Chelsea to Brad Jones and his family. The LFC reserve goalkeeper lost his son, Luca Jones, to leukemia on Friday and Liverpool players wore black armbands in Sunday’s game, according to the club website.
“I’d like to dedicate the win to Brad Jones who had a difficult week losing his son,” Adam said after the game. “That one was for you big man and we are all thinking about you.”
Luca Jones, 5, battled cancer for 18-months before passing away.
Brad Jones joined Liverpool from Middlesbrough in August 2010 as Luca was battling the illness. The Australian international withdrew from his country’s World Cup preparations that summer to be with his son.
Middlesbrough players also wore black armbands in their 2-2 draw with Blackpool on Saturday.
