Phillie Phanatic Douses Olympic Torch Bearer Then Steals Torch (Video)

The Phillie Phanatic is one of the more recognizable mascots in sports, known for his outlandish appearance and wacky actions on the field and in the stands. But this time, the Phanatic may have taken things a bit too far.

Rex Ronald, the so-called 1984 Bronze medalist in ping-pong, was proudly carrying the Olympic torch around Citizens Bank Ballpark for Phillies fans to admire during their game against the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday night.

And what does the Phanatic do? Throws water in poor Rex’s face and steals his torch.

It’s not that the Phanatic isn’t patriotic, he just had a far more legitimate reason for his actions: Rex was a Diamondbacks fan.

And in all fairness, Rex looked like he knew it was coming. No one wears Rec Specs unless they’re prepared to use them.

Check out the video below and remember, beware of the Phanatic.
