Julian Edelman’s Injury Should Add To Patriots’ Already Unpredictable Ways

The New England Patriots will be without wide receiver Julian Edelman on Sunday, but it’s unclear how that will affect their offense.

Edelman was ruled out Saturday night as he continues to deal with a concussion. Now the Patriots must alter their offensive game plan ahead of their showdown with the New York Jets.

Edelman’s absence might complicate matters for the Patriots, but there’s a chance it actually will work to their advantage.

“As this is potentially the final Rex Ryan battle against New England as head coach of the New York Jets, this adds another layer of intrigue,” former Patriots and Jets linebacker Matt Chatham wrote on FootballByFootball.com. “Rex won’t know exactly what he’ll be swinging at until the game is underway. The Patriots certainly won’t be better without Edelman, but they will be different. And different is hard to game plan for on short notice, even for a defensive mind as sharp as Rex.”
