Utah’s coaching staff had a little extra time to prepare for Saturday’s bowl game. Apparently they made the most of it.

The No. 22 Utes squared off against Colorado State in the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl, and after stopping the Rams on their opening drive, they reached deep into the bag of tricks on their very first play from scrimmage.

OK, let’s break this thing down. Running back Devontae Booker gets the handoff from quarterback Travis Wilson and flips the ball to wide receiver Tim Patrick on a reverse. Patrick throws the ball back across the field to Wilson, who heaves it downfield and connects with wide receiver Kaelin Clay (remember him?) for a 36-yard gain.

That’s a lot of work for 36 yards, not to mention one of the most elaborate trick plays we’ve seen in recent memory. It turned out to be worth it, though. Wilson rushed for an eight-yard touchdown two plays later, and Utah cruised to a 45-10 win.
