It’s probably safe to say Chimdi Chekwa’s time with the New England Patriots won’t be remembered.

ProFootballTalk.com reported Monday morning that the Patriots released Chekwa before he even made an appearance with the club. The Patriots signed the cornerback on March 11.

New England signed Chekwa after four seasons with the Oakland Raiders. The 2011 fourth-round pick played in just 32 games during his span in Oakland.

The Patriots have made a habit of releasing cornerbacks in recent weeks. New England also released Kyle Arrington and Alfonzo Dennard earlier this offseason. In addition to those cuts, the Patriots also lost Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner through free agency.
