Speculation has been swirling around Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant’s plans for the future. Those plans became a bit clearer Thursday.
Appearing on Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski’s SiriusXM radio show “Basketball and Beyond,” Bryant still gave a somewhat cryptic answer in regards to his future, but one that lends itself to his current plans if the season ended today.
“If something changes I’ll come back and play next season,” Bryant told Coach K. “If something doesn’t change this is it for me.”
In other words, if the season ended today, Bryant would be hanging up the high tops. We won’t actually know what Bryant is planning to do for several months, and he’s gone on record saying he doesn’t want a retirement tour. But if anything provides insight into his future decision, this does.
The 17-time All-Star is averaging just 16.9 points per game this season, his lowest since his third professional season as a 20-year-old. His 32,617 points rank third all time, behind only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone.
