Don’t rule out the possibility that Jimmy Garoppolo will see the fieldĀ for the New England Patriots on Thursday.

The PatriotsĀ “still believe there’s a chance” Garoppolo, who has an AC joint sprain, will start against the Houston Texans, ESPN’s Ed Werder reported Tuesday morning. Werder later reported the Patriots believe Garoppolo might be able to play.

The Patriots haven’t signed aĀ free-agent quarterback yet. Rookie Jacoby Brissett is the only other quarterback on their roster, active or practice squad, since Tom Brady is serving his four-game Deflategate suspension.

“… They value every roster spot; they don’t think any UFA QB can help them beat (the) Texans,” Werder tweeted about the Patriots.

Both wide receiver Julian Edelman and tight end A.J. Derby played quarterback in college. Former Patriots executive Michael Lombardi tweeted Edelman would be the Patriots’ emergency quarterback.
