FOXBORO, Mass. — Jacoby Brissett wasn’t willing to reveal much Wednesday about his status for the New England Patriots’ upcoming matchup with the Buffalo Bills.

That’s Coach (Bill Belichick)’s decision,” the rookie quarterback said. “I can’t make that decision.”

Brissett injured the thumb on his throwing hand during last Thursday’s win over the Houston Texans, which also happened to be the third-round draft pick’s first NFL start. He reportedly suffered the injury early in the second half but completed the game without missing a snap.

Asked whether the injury affects his ability to grip the football, Brissett said it’s “just something I deal with.”

“I played with it, so I didn’t think about it,” he said. “That’s the main thing, to not think about it.”

Brissett and fellow injured signal-caller Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) both attempted passes during Wednesday’s Patriots practice. It remains to be seen whether either will be healthy enough to start Sunday against the Bills, though recent reports have indicated at least one of them should be.

I’m just focusing on the game plan,” Brissett said. “We’ve got a tough team coming in this weekend, so we’ve just got to go out there and prepare. We’re going against a good team coming off a big win, so we’ve just got to go out there and do our job.”

Brissett completed 11 of 19 passes for 103 yards against the Texans. He also picked up 48 rushing yards on eight carries, including a 27-yard touchdown run.
