Soccer Podcast: Steven Gerrard To Leave Liverpool With Crater To Fill

by Marcus Kwesi O'Mard

Jan 14, 2015

Steven GerrardNothing will be the same at Liverpool FC once Steven Gerrard walks out the exit door in July.

Gerrard announced earlier this month that he’ll leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the 2014-15 season. Initial shock gave way to sadness, as Liverpool prepares for a future without its longtime captain and talisman. Liverpool will have a crater-sized hole to fill when Gerrard starts his American adventure with the Los Angeles Galaxy this summer.

Gerrard’s announcement and the subsequent fall-out came during a busy period of the season for Liverpool. The Reds are chasing a top-four finish in the Premier League and still are competing in three more competitions. The January transfer window opened on New Year’s Day, adding to the hectic nature of the moment. And there are more games — bigger games — to come for Liverpool, as it seeks to end the season on a successful note after the difficult start to the campaign.

NESN.com soccer editor Marcus Kwesi O’Mard and James Pearce, the Liverpool FC reporter for the Liverpool Echo, discuss Gerrard’s impending exit, the Reds’ potential transfer activity this month and the upcoming games that compose Liverpool’s moment of truth in 2014-15.
