Barack Obama Hosts UConn Women, the 'Best Team in All of Sports, Any Sport, Any Gender' Charles hands it off to Moore, who swings it over to Obama, who turns. Pump-fakes. Sends it up … and it’s good!

President Barack Obama was presented with an autographed basketball by Tina Charles and Maya Moore as he honored the 2010 NCAA champion (and owners of a 78-game winning streak) University of Connecticut women’s basketball team in the East Room of the White House in Washington on Monday.

Prior to the tournament, Obama pegged UConn to win it all.

“I want to point out: This team has not lost a game since I was elected president,” Obama said. He later called them the “best team in all of sports, any sport, any gender.”

Quote of the day

“Just flat fastballs that weren’t located, poorly executed pitches. When you don’t
execute the pitch you want, usually in my situation, bad things happen.”
Jonathan Papelbon on the two pitches he would like to have back from Monday’s 11-9 loss to the Yankees

Comment of the day

See? Red Sox fans can’t be too mad at Daisuke Matsuzaka‘s Monday night performance.

“I suppose the one bright spot in last night’s game was the fact that
Dice K decided to implode in the first inning for a change, and that
gave the Red Sox time to score. Generally he chooses to do it later in
the game when there is little time left. So…..thank you Dice K for
being so kind. You are putrid at best……….Papelbon is falling
apart before our eyes….he is not the same guy he was a few years ago,
that is for sure. And he thinks he deserves Mariano money???? Please,
he ought to consider pitching like Mariano if he wants the same money.
Now, there’s a thought…….
On to tonight….God help them……..”
