The Phoenix Coyotes Selected Blake Wheeler Fifth Overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft

Blake Wheeler, who spent his first two-plus seasons with the Bruins, showed Boston hockey fans that he’s got all the tools to become an elite winger in the NHL.

In his rookie year with the B’s, the 6-foot-5 Minnesota native popped 21 goals and added 24 assists to go with a plus-36 plus-minus. After being traded to the Thrashers in 2011, Wheeler managed 17 points in just 23 games in Atlanta. Last season in Winnipeg, he posted a career-high 64 points and he’s hoping to reach the 200-point plateau this season, as he’s just nine points away from the feat.
