Yankees' Nick Swisher Benched in Game 2 of World Series After struggling through Wednesday night's World Series loss to Philadelphia, Nick Swisher will get to keep warm on the bench during Game 2 of the Fall Classic.

According to ESPN.com, Yankees manager Joe Girardi has elected to sit the outfielder with Pedro Martinez on the mound. Swisher went 0-for-3 in New York's 6-1 loss to the Phillies on Wednesday night and is batting just .114 with zero homers and 12 strikeouts through the postseason.

Swisher will be replaced by Jerry Hairston Jr., who will bat seventh against Philadelphia. He is 10-for-27 in his career against Martinez.

During the 2009 season, Swisher was an unsung hero of a talented Yankees lineup, hitting 29 homers and driving in 82 runs in his first year in the Bronx.
