When top Red Sox prospect Casey Kelly was shut down earlier this month due to a strained lat, the prospect's career path took a slight detour. That path now appears to be heading to the Arizona Fall League.

According to The Providence Journal, Kelly will be among the group of prospects sent to Arizona this summer to participate in the five-week season.

The report also says that infielder Jose Iglesias and closer Jason Rice will also participate.

Kelly, ranked as the organization's top prospect, went through some growing pains in his first full season as a pitcher for the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs. In 21 starts, the 20-year-old Kelly went 3-5 with a 5.31 ERA, striking out 81 batters in 95 innings.
