Kenny Dalglish‘s first significant move as Liverpool’s interim manager is now in the books, as former Newcastle, Chelsea and West Ham assistant Steve Clarke has been appointed first-team coach.

Clarke, a Chelsea defender in his playing days, saw his best coaching days in the Premier League during the Jose Mourinho era at Stamford Bridge, where he won two league titles and an FA Cup from 2004 to 2007.

“Steve is a great addition to our team and I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring him in,” Dalglish said of Clarke, according to the BBC.

“I am looking forward to working with Steve alongside [assistant manager] Sammy Lee and our other staff.”

The 47-year-old was already at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground on Monday.

Mike Kelly, Roy Hogdson’s choice for coach who came in during the summer, was not with the team on Sunday at Old Trafford, and is expected to be on his way out.
