Former Red Sox first baseman Mo Vaughn had a few memorable seasons in front of the Fenway Park fans. His first big season came in 1993, when despite Vaughn's biggest efforts, the Sox sputtered to the finish for another disappointing season.

That wasn't any fault of Vaughn's, however. The big first baseman had the best season of his then young career, hitting 29 home runs and 101 RBIs, providing a large chunk of an otherwise anemic offense that scored only 686 runs.

Despite Vaughn's best efforts, the Sox collapsed down the stretch, as they lost 31 of their last 47 games. When it was all said and done, it was a fifth-place finish for Butch Hobson's bunch, as the Sox limped to an 80-82 record.

Boston College won the 1993 baseball Beanpot at Fenway Park, and the Red Sox conducted an Old-Timer's Game, as well, that included some Negro League legends.
