Martin Tremblay, the coach of the UBC (Vancouver) Hornets, is under investigation by the Mounties after tripping an opposing player in the postgame handshake line, according to CTV News.
The entire incident was captured on video. Tremblay, whose team had just won the gold medal game to end the spring season, can be seen tripping a player from the Richmond Steel, which sent him and another boy to the ice. One of them reportedly suffered a broken wrist in the fall.
Officials were called to the scene and took Tremblay into custody for questioning before releasing him. They are still considering charges, the severity of which would be determined on the extent of the boys’ injuries.
Tremblay himself has claimed that the entire thing was an accident, and that the trip was precipitated by him slipping on the ice. In the same video, he was also seen making obscene gestures to the crowd after the trip occurred.
