The New England Patriots reportedly added much-needed depth at running back Tuesday.
LeGarrette Blount signed a one-year contract with the Patriots, the Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe and NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported. Blount took over as the Patriots’ starting running back in 2015 after Dion Lewis was lost for the season with a torn ACL. Blount went on season-ending injured reserve after Week 14 with a hip injury.
Blount had 165 carries for 703 yards with six touchdowns in 2015. He has 378 carries for 1,756 yards with 16 touchdowns in three seasons with the Patriots.
Blount joins Lewis, Brandon Bolden, James White, Donald Brown and Joey Iosefa on the Patriots’ running back depth chart. Re-signing Blount shouldn’t preclude the Patriots from drafting or signing another running back.
