Josh Norman Explains Odell Beckham Jr. Rivalry For The Players’ Tribune

Josh Norman wants to steal Odell Beckham Jr.’s bologna.

Norman, who recently signed a five-year, $75 million contract with the Washington Redskins after the Carolina Panthers rescinded the cornerback’s franchise tag, discussed several topics in a piece published Monday on The Players’ Tribune. Among them was Norman’s rivalry with Beckham, which reached its fever pitch when the two tussled in Week 15 last season, resulting in a one-game suspension for the New York Giants wide receiver.

It’s clear from Norman’s piece that the 2012 fifth-round draft pick has a chip on his shoulder. He explained how his older brothers, who were bigger than him, would try to steal his bologna as a kid and how he now applies that experience to his career as an NFL cornerback.

Norman wrote:

“When Odell and I went at one another last year, people got mad. Imagine that. People who watch this sport every Sunday and say they love it actually pretended to be offended. They don’t see the beauty in it. They don’t see the truth.

The guy lining up across from me, he knows the truth. There are a lot of people who watch this game, or who are paid to commentate on it, who might not understand the true reality. They might get offended. They might think we’re animals.

But Odell and I, we know the truth. Anybody who makes it to this level knows it. The truth is that on the football field, he’s trying to steal my bologna, and I’m trying to steal his.

See you twice a year, bro.”

Norman and Beckham will square off more frequently now that they’re both in the NFC East. Their upcoming battles might not be quite as physical as their showdown last season, but Norman sounds like he’s ready to do whatever it takes to come out on top.

It’s all part of protecting your bologna, we suppose.
