Manny Ramirez Line Drive Hits Roy Oswalt Behind His Ear, X-Rays Come Back Negative

Things were going along just fine for Phillies pitcher Roy Oswalt, that is until the one-two punch of Evan Longoria and Manny Ramirez in the fourth inning sent him to the dugout.

Longoria homered to lead off the fourth, followed by a line drive from Ramirez. Of the two, the line drive was what sent Oswalt to the clubhouse … only after he was able to get up from off the ground. Ramirez smacked the line drive straight up the middle at Oswalt, who couldn't get out of the way before the ball drilled him behind his right ear.

Oswalt immediately fell to the ground, where he remained on his back for a few moments and was checked out by the Phillies' trainer and manager, Charlie Manuel. Oswalt was able to walk off the field on his own, and seemed to be fine after the Ramirez liner.

The Phillies said Oswalt did not lose consciousness or feel dizzy after the hit. He did have a bruise on his neck, however, but the X-rays have come back negative, according to the Associated Press. The team is unsure whether or not Oswalt will make his next scheduled start on the mound.
