The Washington Nationals added some power to their lineup on Tuesday by acquiring outfielder Jonny Gomes from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for two minor leaguers.

In the wake of the move, the Reds have promoted first base/outfield prospect Yonder Alonso to take Gomes' place. The Reds received minor leaguers Chris Manno and Bill Rhinehart in return.

This season, Gomes is batting .211 with 11 home runs and 31 RBIs. The 30-year-old outfielder drove in a career-high 86 runs for Cincinnati in 2010.

Alonso, the seventh overall selection in the 2008 draft, hit .296 with 40 extra-base hits and 56 RBIs in Triple-A this season, earning him an International League All-Star selection.
