The Bruins enjoyed a successful weekend in California, but it wasn’t a totally flawless trip for Boston.

Jake DeBrusk was a healthy scratch for the Bruins’ Saturday night win over the Los Angeles Kings at Crypto.com Arena. Prior to the tilt, Boston head coach Jim Montgomery revealed DeBrusk was not in the lineup as a result of being late to a team meeting.

It was only a one-game punishment for DeBrusk, who was back in the fold Sunday for the Bruins’ 3-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center. And after Boston’s fifth straight victory, which saw DeBrusk log an assist, the 27-year-old took total accountability for his misstep.

“It was one of those things — we have high standards on this team,” DeBrusk told reporters, per a team-provided video. “We have a higher standard than people give credit for and I broke a team rule. I understand there are consequences with that and I own up to it completely. I let the guys down. I wanted to join them in LA (on Saturday) and having to watch really sucked. I felt it and I just wanted to do anything I could to help the team out (Sunday) in any way.”

DeBrusk added: “I’m proud to be a Bruin. I’m proud of the standards we have here and it is what it is. I don’t have a rebuttal or anything on it. That’s kind of all I’ll say on it, to be honest with you.”

After turning the page Sunday, DeBrusk will try to help the Bruins stay perfect again when they wrap up their four-game road trip Tuesday. Puck drop for the Boston-Chicago matchup is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.
